About Me!

Hi, I’m Catherine (Cate) Marroquin.

I’m a Public Relations major at the University of Oregon, pursuing a minor in Science Communication. I’m originally from San Diego, California, and come from a Latin American background that has shaped my appreciation for culture, storytelling, and music. I began my academic journey in the biological sciences before shifting my focus to communication and media.

I’m particularly interested in media production, content strategy, and artist branding. My experience includes working with independent artists to develop brand identity, create strategic content plans, and strengthen digital engagement. I am constantly in tune with pop culture and current news. Through my work, I’ve learned how to translate creative ideas into clear, cohesive messaging.

Beyond academics, I enjoy curating playlists, reading, exploring pop culture, and working on all types of creative projects—from painting to jewelry making. I’m especially passionate about how messages get communicated over time through different media and how strategy shapes those interactions.

After graduation, I hope to work in public relations within either the entertainment industry or a nonprofit-driven organization, particularly in health or science communication. I’m especially drawn to the research side of PR and how data can inform more effective communication strategies.

Education

2022-Current

I began my academic journey at the University of Oregon as a Neuroscience major before transitioning into Public Relations, while continuing to pursue my interest in science through a minor in Science Communication. This academic path has allowed me to bridge both analytical and creative thinking. I am grateful for the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Journalism and Communication for shaping my approach to research, work ethic, and communication.

2022- 2026

The Robert D. Clark Honors College is a small liberal arts community within the University of Oregon that emphasizes discussion-based learning and close collaboration with peers and professors. My experience in the program helped me develop critical thinking skills and deepened my interest in interdisciplinary learning through a more discussion-driven curriculum.

2017-2021

I was fortunate to attend the Academy of Our Lady of Peace (OLP) for all four years of my high school education. The all-girls environment provided a strong sense of community and sisterhood while also encouraging individual growth, creativity, and hands-on learning.
